What is an agreement in principle?
An agreement in principle is your first step towards a new mortgage. It shows how much you might be able to borrow.
We do a soft credit check, which means it won’t affect your credit score. And then you can be confident about borrowing more, or moving your Clydesdale mortgage to a new home.
What we'll ask for
- Personal details including your name and address
- Employment details including your annual and monthly income
- Outgoings including childcare, maintenance and credit cards and other debts
You can apply if:
- You've got a mortgage with us already
- It's for a UK residential property (excluding Northern Ireland)
- You only use sterling income or assets to repay the mortgage
- You've paid all recent bills on time and never had a house repossessed
- You've not been bankrupt, had a debt management plan, county court judgement or a large or unsatisfied default on a loan in the last 6 years
- You have the permission of joint applicants to enter their details
Buy-to-let and interest only customers
We can't currently provide an agreement in principle for interest only or buy-to-let customers. For help with these mortgages, please contact us.
Don’t risk losing your home – keep up your mortgage payments
All applications are subject to status and lending criteria. A final lending decision will be based on assessment of how much you could reasonably afford, your individual circumstances, your credit score and your property.
